Description:
Very early 2nd Model Winchester Model 1890 with Case Colored Receiver. Caliber .22 Short, Serial Number 25386, Manufacture Date 1894, 24 inch Octagon Barrel, Cresent Butt Plate. The receiver has muted case color still present with a light brown patina. The barrel has strong blue, about 90% but is a replacement barrel. It sports a "postal" proof mark meaning it is a Winchester Barrel sent out the door from Winchester to, what appears to have been, a very good gunsmith who did a fine job replacing the original. The bore is shiny with good rifling.The wood is very good,except for some darkening around the wrist area from handling during it's 130 years of use. There are no cracks or chips and the wood to metal fit is very tight. As you can see in the pictures, the cresent buttplate has been polished. The plate was removed and verified that it's not been plated just polished out. Mechanics are fine. Everything cycles as it should and locks up tight.
With the replacement barrel most will consider this a shooter and probably is, however, you don't see that many 90's this early and priced as a shooter in excellent shooting condition.
