This rifle retains 92-95% of the original blue, with some mild silvering at the muzzle, as well as specks of plum-brown freckling throughout. The bolt retains most of the original armory bright finish, with a darker brown patina on the handle. Much of the original bright nitre blue remains on the extractor. A three-notch Model 1898 rear sight with reblued riser and eyepiece is installed (the vertical white metal centerline wire on the eyepiece is no longer present). The walnut stock and handguard are in generally fine condition with numerous small handling marks in the original oil finish, and crisp "JSA / 1899" cartouche on the left side. The buttplate retains nearly all of a later added blue finish, and the cleaning rod is present in the stock compartment. This is a very nice Model 1898 Krag, with a desirable three-notch rear sight, and rates very good-fine condition overall. FFL or C&R SOLD |
