Here we present an antique Flintlock Martial Pistol by Constable, made circa the early-19th Century in London, England. Richard Constable was a gunmaker and retailer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from about 1817 to 1851. In addition to making his own branded firearms he imported many from England.
This would have been one of the guns he imported. The barrel features London proofs and “LONDON” marked across the top of the barrel. It follows the general pattern of British Light Dragoon pistols of the time. This may have been intended for militia use in early United States.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Semi-bright bore, smooth and remains in good shape. A few stable cracks are present around the pommel with the rest of the wood maintaining average wear. The ramrod is missing. “CONSTABLE” is engraved on the lock. “LONDON” marked barrel.
