Antique BELGIAN Military CHARLEVILLE Rifle-Musket BAYONET
Dated 1857 on the Stock CIVIL WAR IMPORT
Here we present an antique Belgian Charleville Flintlock to Percussion Conversion Rifled-Musket, made circa the 1820s converted to percussion circa 1857. This example was converted with a breech bolster. It has been rifled and the trumpet shaped rammer is recessed to fit the nose of the bullet. The buttstock is marked with a “1857” date, likely when it was converted. There is a Belgian government stamp “GB” in an oval on the barrel.
Many then-obsolete muskets were imported to the U.S. Ordnance Department and to the Confederacy by the thousands during the first few months of the American Civil War.
The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent. The bore is in very good condition with strong rifling. The walnut stock is solid and shows some use. Armory/inspection markings throughout. A very nice Belgian military musket!
