WATERS M1836 Percussion DRAGOON Conversion Pistol CIVIL WAR MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR Conversion Pistol, Dated 1841 Here we present an antique Asa H. Waters U.S. Model 1836 Percussion Pistol, made in 1841. This pistol would have started out life as a flintlock and had a period conversion as the new percussion technology developed. There were actually two manufacturers of these guns: Asa Waters and Robert Johnson. Combined, the production totals 41,000 guns. This was the last U.S. martial pistol to use the flintlock system, and many consider this the best of all U.S. flint guns due to its craftsmanship and aesthetic appeal. The gun is historically significant as this was the primary issue pistol during the Mexican American War (1846-1848) and was even significantly used during the American Civil War (1861-1865), especially in this percussion converted format. The lock plate is roll-stamped with an eagle head above “A.W. WATERS / MILBURY. MS. / 1841” in three lines. Many of these were lost to attrition during the various conflicts listed above, and many were converted for use, as is this one, by the North & South during the Civil War. This one is a more “commercial” style of conversion rather than one from an armory. The commercial style was done by gunsmiths using what they had such as hammers made for long rifles with light engraving and the like. Many of these were done in the South where parts were scarce. The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dark. The stock is solid; there as a repair down near the pommel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-1/2 inches. Caliber: .54 Percussion Conversion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
