Description:
This is an original full box of .256 Newton caliber cartridges in the yellow box. These cartridges are loaded with Newton's patented 129 grain Heat Insulated Protected Point bullets. Newton Arms Co. Inc. started producing their own ammo in about 1917 and with various interuptions due to WWI, made ammo with their label on the boxes until 1-1-1919. This ammunition would have been sold for the Model 1916 rifle. These original cartridges have no headstamp which is one of the original 4 variations of headstamps for the Newton cartridges. The War caused problems with acquisition of brass and some of that brass was inferior. Newton and/or the company also stated that there was a lack of zinc which lead to brass lacking strength. The majority of Newton ammunition from this era has cracked necks and Newton claimed the lack of zinc was part of the problem. This is a full box of original caartridges WITHOUT CRACKED NECKS. In a survey of 798 Model 1916 Newton rifles, about 60% were made in caliber .256 Newton or about 2400 rifles and about 60% of those were produced in the first 2000 rifles made.
