HENRY S. HOWES” CA. 1930’S. 36” o/a with 29” blade. Metal scabbard and hilt with German silver mounts with high relief engraving. Hilt with “EAGLE” pommel and ebonite grip. Eagle with ruby eyes. God and black portapee. Blade engraved with name panel “CAPT. HENRY S. HOWES” and stamped on the riccasso “GERMANY” and on the obverse “CO./1764/C.C.C.” indicating he was Commanding Officer of Civilian Conservation Corps Camp 1764 during the 1930’s and was very probably given the sword as a presentation. Camp 1764 was at Lake Itasca in Northern Minnesota. Excellent all original overall. Henry Streight Howes was a veteran of both WW1 and WW2 rising to the rank of Colonel and serving in the latter with the Army Air Corps Quartermaster Dept. Scarce sword. Extra nice. SOLD |
