Description:
This 1980 double action 1911-style pistol is a Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 chambered in 9 MM. It has a 4-inch barrel, a single column 8-round magazine, rear slide serrations, right side combination safety/decocker lever, a square-checkered backstrap with lanyard loop, a low profile serrated ramp fixed front sight, a square notch blade adjustable rear sight, and a textured magazine release button. The nickel finish is in excellent condition. The diamond checkered walnut stocks are in excellent condition. The bore is bright and shiny, and the gun appears to be unfired. In 1966, the Naval Ordnance Laboratory developed a specially modified version of the Model 39 at the request of Navy SEAL teams deployed in Vietnam. The SEALs had requested a weapon they could silence enemy guard dogs (and more importantly personnel) with; this led to suppressed pistols ubiquitously being nicknamed 'Hush Puppies'. The 39-2 is like the 39, except it has a different extractor that uses a coil spring. The barrel bushing is similar to that of the 1911. Instead of locking against a plug like the 1911, the Smith 39-2's bushings lock in place with the end of the recoil spring guide rod. While the design is over 50 years old, the Smith and Wesson 39 design doesn't seem so dated. It is still a serviceable pistol that is remarkably current despite its age. It comes with original blue box, Owner's manual, original receipt, original price tag, all other paperwork, and extra 8-round original S&W magazine (two magazines total). 9mm Luger
