Description:
Arisaka Type 99, chambered in 7.7 Jap. Features include: Mauser inspired bolt action, 26 in. barrel length, 5 shot internal box magazine, one-piece bolt construction, controlled feed Mauser style extractor, fixed rear sight, fixed front blade sight, full length wooden stock, full length upper handguard, bottom mounted sling swivels, wood buttplate, finger grooves on forearm, knob style safety located on the rear of the bolt body, straight bolt handle, lever-style bolt release with integral ejector, blued finish. This type 99 rifle is what we refer to as 'Last Ditch' as it shows distinct features that indicate the desperation of the Japanese to get rifles out. These features include: Lack of hole drilled for cleaning rod, fixed rear sights, stock and receiver showing rough machine marks, sport welding in place of knurling on bolt safety, and wood butt plate. This rifle is part of the 25th and final series made at the Kokura arsenal. The receiver shows this mark, followed by the serial number, and then the factory stamp. This rifle also lacks a chrysanthemum or even the Japanese characters on the top of the receiver. All the bluing has gone brown. The stock is in decent shape despite someone's initials on the right side. Bore is dirty but rifling is still present. 7.7 Japanese
