This is a 1916 built Colt New Service revolver that was likely sent back to the Colt for an upgrade to a .357 Magnum barrel and cylinder sometime after 1935. In excellent condition the metal surfaces retain about 90-94% original blue most of the loss is on the frame, the backstrap has toned to gray with a field of lightly cleaned oxidized pitting on the lower portion, high edge wear, sparse freckling with some of them showing pinprick pitting, and handling marks. The service trigger and hammer retain most of their finish showing light edge wear, while the sides of the hammer remain bright with minor staining and operational wear, and the lanyard loop has toned to gray. The checkered hard rubber grips were numbered to another gun, scratched out, hand numbered to this gun. They feature COLT in an oval and rate about excellent. The gun features a serrated ramp front sight, fixed rear sight, the barrel address is on the right side of the barrel, there are no observed factory rework numbers or marks, it has the early flat thumb latch, and it correctly times and locks up. An excellent example of a modified New Service. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
