Description:
This saber measures 40 7/8" overall, with a 34 3/4" curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers. The steel has an overall bright gray patina with patches of dark freckling evenly distributed along both faces. The ricasso is maker marked on the obverse with the Ames "Scroll" trademark; and "US / ADK / 186(?)" on the reverse. The brass guard has an overall dull ochre patina, while the leather grip is in very good shape, with some wear and minor damage where it meets the counterguard, and the braided wire wrap is slightly loose, but still intact. The steel scabbard has thin freckling and spots of mild surface oxidation along its length, but is undented and is otherwise in fine condition. A short chain has been added to the hanger rings in order to suspend the saber on a wall for display. This is a very good plus US cavalry saber overall.
