About Us: A collector of WWII small arms from US, Germany, Great Britain, Canada, Japan

Description:
Description: The M1941 Johnson is a.30-06 cal., 22 in. removable air cooled barrel, recoil operated, perforated metal handguard, aperture sight, military stock, semi-automatic..   The M1941 competed with the Springfield with its U.S. M1 Garand Rifle for becoming the main battle rifle for the US military with about 22,000 produced.  Most were made for Dutch military, some used by U.S. Marine Paratroopers, during WWII.  There are stories of the Marines "comandeering" some of the Dutch rifles from docks when the Dutch pulled out.  Actual documented Johnson rifles used by the Marines in WWII are very rare and valuable.

Condition: This rifle is in 90% (Minimal wear, well-maintained) condition and only rated this low as there had been some storage rust on the magazine right side which was treated and removed by a gunsmith. Barrel is excellent with bore shiny throughout and great riflings.  The metal components have a parkerized finish.

The rifle has the following features:
  • The top of the receiver front is marked "Cal. 30-06 Semi-Auto   Johnson Automatics    Model of 1941   Made in Providence, R.I., U.S.A    B1231".  B1231 being the serial number which designates a 1941 production date.
  • The right rear of the receiver has "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." stamped in an inverted triangle on the right rear of the receiver with the Dutch inspectors small five pointed star stamp over the triangle.
  • The bolt has B5911 stamped on it which is common as they did not match numbers during production.
  • The buttplate is checkered steel.
  • The adjustable rear site is graduated for meters and has M2 stamped on left side of sight.
  • The stock is plain and unadorned with no checkering or other embellishments, but is lacking the rear strap swivel bracket.
  • The barrel has a bayonet lug and fixed "ear"protected blade sight.
  • The "magazine" is a fixed round magazine with a 10 round capacity and is loaded from the right side via 5 round stripper clips or singularly by hand if required..
  • The barrel actually recoiled backward during firing then returned to position.  It is designed to easily replace the barrel if barrel gets overheated during recurring firing.  The light machinegun Johnson has the same feature.
