***SOLD*** Overall excellent example of this scarce variant Winchester 1895 Musket in 7.62 Russian caliber (7.62x54R)
S/N 399309 mfg. in 1920
28" Barrel with bayonet lug and an excellent reflective bore.
Original finish on the barrel remains in vg-excellent condition. The receiver has taken on a mottled gray patina.
The original wood finish is also vg-excellent, with some expected dings and a perfect Russian inspector's approval stamp on the buttstock. The thinly wooded top handguard had some amateur and failed old splice repairs at the tail end to address several longitudinal cracks. Not exactly how I would have handled it, but the entire piece is now very stable, with the cracks tight and sealed.
The rear portion of receiver is equipped with original issue charging bars to accept fast loading cartridge stripper clips.
The buttplate is of the steel carbine/musket style with trap door. There are no cleaning rods present.
Original sights include a blade front and the long range step ladder rear.
All mechanical functions seem ultra smooth and crisp.
A very respectable placeholder of this hard to find, and usually thrashed variant.
