Description:
This absolutely gorgeous John Dickson & Son Under Lever, Double Rifle, is something to be admired. By dating the serial number it appears to have been built circa 1870. It features a set of beautifully crafted 28-inch damascus rifled barrels with the matching proof marks "39 S" underneath. Although the exact caliber is not stamped or known, it is believed to be chambered for the .500 Black Powder Express (.500 BPE) round. (*PLEASE NOTE* Chamber casting by a certified Gun Smith is suggested to be sure.) The barrels are also stamped "JOHN DICKSON & SON" (top left side) and "63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" (top right side). The rear of the receiver is stamped "JOHN DICKSON & SON" on both sides, inset of the scroll engraved side plates. The hammers are in flawless function with solid locking action as well as the trigger having a clean, crisp break. The lock-up is tight and the rifling is in Overall Great condition with visibly deep rifling grooves and an almost mirror finish. All of the engraving still appears crisp and detailed with the exception of a few small areas where it looks to have been softened from light handling and/or use. This amazing double rifle should not be missed out on! None
