Description:
US Model 1817, also known as the common rifle, manufactured by Simon North in 1827. These rifles were produced by contractors for the US army. The lock is marked US S.North, Middle Conn., 1827. The lock sometimes does not hold in the cocked position. The full 3 band stock is in good condition. I do not know if it has been reconverted. The barrel has a front sight but no rear sight and is approximately 58 caliber and there is no visible rifling. All metal parts have a brown patina. The top sling swivel loop is broken.
