Description:
Truly a fantastic Philadelphia Fox in FE Grade. This 12ga gun made in 1912 with 32" Krupp Fluid Steel barrels. Barrels are #1 Weight but are unmarked. Barrels have beautiful wedge of scroll engraving on breech ends. Original splinter forend is beautifull checkered in fleur-de-lis pattern and has fully engraved latch release and iron. The casehardened frame is fabulously full coverage engraved and gold inlaid with dogs on the sides in gold, lightning bolts on the barrels, "Ansley H. Fox" in banner on sides in gold, and gold birds on the bottom of the frame. The long tang trigger guard is beautifully engraved with game scene on bow, SN and scroll at tang. The straight grip buttstock is fabulously figured and checkered as seen in the photos.
The gun is accompanied by a letter from noted Fox Collector and authority Tom Kidd, wherein he describes the gun in incredible detail noting all the metal finishes to be factory original. He also notes the stock finishes to be original with the exception of the rear portion of the butt which has been maintained with some finish added for preservation. The bores are brilliant and shiny, mechanics are perfect.
This is easily the single finest original FE Grade Philly Fox offered for sale publicly in the last 5 years. This is a top shelf gun in all regards and should be celebrated as such.
