News Flash!  The 16ga. Sterlingworth handling characteristics have been discovered, all built on the diminutive 20ga. frame making them notably lighter and better balanced than other American built 16's.  The prices have gone up significantly with the nice 16ga. guns being bought up, leaving mostly hard-used guns left for sale. Most will agree that the Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. is the best value for a small gauge American double gun.  Balanced delightfully just ahead of the hinge pin and weighing just 5lbs. 15oz. with the 28” number 4 weight barrels, this Sterlingworth, sn352548 made in 1915, was built during the early years when the best Fox guns came to be.  If you look closely, you will notice this Sterlingworth has factory bone and charcoal case color.  The year 1915 is right about when A.H. Fox Gun Co. began using cyanide case color, and that practice continued until the end of production.  I like the bone and charcoal colors better.  THIS GUN IS COMPLETELY FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ON ALL METAL AND WOOD, SOMETHING THAT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN TODAY’S WORLD, ESPECIALLY WITH THE HIGH CONDITION YOU SEE IN THIS FINE FOX.  The barrels retain 98% blue, the action 96% vivid case color, trigger guard 80% charcoal blue, and the original wood finish still shows strong with the normal field marks on the stock.  The mechanics are superb, the screws are perfect and unmarked over the years, the bores are like mirrors, and the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun with the top lever well right of center.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 16GA. SHELLS.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE CAREFULLY MEASURED THE BARREL WALL THICKNESS AHEAD OF THE CHAMBER AND HAVE LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN.  This is a $360 service in our shop. Just look at the wood to metal fit and the factory original flat top checkering…there are few Fox Sterlingworth guns left on the planet in this nice of condition.  The gun has been used over the 109 years but has been well cared for.  She even has the original butt plate and good stock dimensions.  Priced affordably, it is a great bird or clays gun and will function flawlessly as you enjoy carrying a piece of American history.  If you like a "pretty gun" we can restore the wood on this gun at your request. The specifications can be seen below.  Thanks for looking!
