Description:
Serial #18556, .50 RF, 20" barrel with a very good, bright bore with some minor freckling and pitting within the grooves. This is a handsome, Stabler cutoff-equipped carbine that retains about 85-90% of the original blue on the barrel, with some silvering at the muzzle, as well as some thin freckling along the top and sides. The receiver has about 60-70% of the original color case-hardening remaining with the balance blending into a smooth pewter gray patina. The breechblock and lever likewise have quite a bit of original color case-hardening remaining with some traces of original fire blue still visible on the ejector. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the old oil finish. The military cartouches are still clear and legible, and a small circle stamp with "H" is present on the left side of the buttstock, probably the initial of a subsequent owner. A single magazine tube is included and is in fully functional condition. This is a very nice example of a post-war Spencer cavalry carbine, and is in fine condition overall. Antique
