Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1937, .410, 6lbs. 8oz., Choked M, LOP 14 9/16", DAH 2 1/16", DAC 1 7/16" Serial Number: 26100 The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts. The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell. In the 30 years of production that ran from 1933 to 1963, almost 160,000 of these fine guns were produced. A very large percentage were Field Grade guns, and there were also Skeet Grades, Trap Grades, Deluxe Grades, and rarely a Pigeon Grade. There were just over 5000 Skeet Grades ever produced, or about 3% of total production. That makes a Model 42 Skeet Grade a scarce gun, especially with highly figured wood and high condition. The Skeet Grade can be identified by a “Skeet” style forend, checkered grip and forend, usually nicer wood, fit, and finish. Of course, the cost soars when you find a high-condition, factory original Model 42 Skeet Grade gun, and many shooters don’t want to spend that much money on a “fun” gun. This fine Winchester M42 SKEET GRADE, PRE-WAR PRODUCTION, sn26100 made in 1937, is a gorgeous gun with highly figured wood, 99% wood and metal finish, 26” ventilated rib barrel with 3” chambers, modified choked, and is like new inside and out. This gun was restored by Simmons Gun Specialties in Kansas City, MO, a company that is famous for their excellent work on the Winchester Model 42 and Model 12 pump guns. The gun was upgraded at that time with the Simmons rib, the highly figured wood, and all new metal finishes. What a fun gun for hunting or clays, a stunning looker, and priced well below factory original guns. Keep in mind that many Model 42’s that you see online have been upgraded, but the seller either doesn’t know or doesn’t say. You know what you are getting here at Vintage Firearms, Inc. The gun is priced as an upgraded, high-condition Winchester Model 42, still a pre-war gun and with a longer 14 9/16” LOP. Look the photos over closely and you will see one of the nicest looking Model 42 Skeet grades on the market today. Of course, everything Winchester will always be collectible, and values will continue to climb, as they are not being made any longer. Rarity and condition drives value, and this gun has plenty of both, so don’t miss out. See below for specifications. Thanks for looking!
