Made in 1923, the gun is now a factory original composed 2 brl set, Set 2 is a 28”, 2-3/4" chambers, with cross file cut matted concave top rib which has small steel front bead. This set proved for 1-1/4oz loads and has SN “8292” on tubes with “6955” on top of rear lug. Gun comes with its original splinter forend which is checkered in point pattern. The gun also has a modern professionally made custom slim beavertail forend currently mounted with the original iron. Forend iron is fully rose and scroll engraved with Anson Type push button release. Interior of iron with SN 6955. The casehardened side lock receiver is beautifully engraved, most certainly by master engraver Jack Sumner. Both locks with “BOSS & CO.” At front in banner and beautifully executed rose and scroll in about 80% coverage. Brl fences are beaded and rose and scroll engraved as is the polish blued top lever and top tang which also has “SAFE” inlaid in gold ahead of the safety slide. Bottom of frame is beautifully rose and scroll engraved en-suite. The rolled edge blued trigger guard engraved with rose and scroll on bow and tang with SN in relief panel at rear of tang. Gun made with Boss single trigger, auto ejectors, non-auto safety. Currently mounted with a professional replacement stock of nicely figured walnut and has ball grip, is checkered in two point pattern through the wrist, has unengraved gold oval on toe line and terminates with a nicely checkered butt. Gun is accompanied by its original stock which has been heavily modified with a Shiozaki type recoil reducer.and the original barrels have been shortened. The new stock is perfect and barrel set 2 is factory to the gun and in great shape!!!
Overall the gun is excellent. Locks and frame with about 35% light original case color. Brl Set 1 is out of proof and shortened, retains about 85% of an older refurbished rust blue with engraving thinned. Bores are very good. Brl Set 2 is excellent and retains more than 95% of an older professionally restored rust blue. Engraving is still excellent overall. Top lever retains about 70% of its original blue. Trigger guard with about 20% blue remaining. Custom buttstock and forend are excellent with minor handling marks and retain nearly all of their professional hand rubbed finish. Orig. forearm is sound. Orig. buttstock modified as noted above. Made at the absolute peak of production quality for a Boss!
