Description:
Whitney 1822 US Contract Musket) first contract during 1826-1830 approximately 15,000 were made by Whitney. This musket was originally a flintlock but was converted with the Belgian/cone conversion in the 1850's. The functioning percussion lock is marked US P&EW BLAKE, Newhaven 1830. The full length 3 band walnut stock has been lightly refinished and is in Excellent condition with 2 visible cartouches. The full length 42" barrel barrel has a bayonet lug and some pitting near the nipple. All metal parts are a smooth dark brown color. The but plate is marked US. The gun is complete with sling swivels and ramrod. The ramrod has been shortened to 40 inches. Overall a very nice functioning old musket. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
