This is a handsome rifle that retains 95-97% of the original blue finish on the barrel, lock, hammer, and stock furniture. Only some gray fading at the muzzle, and some traces of mild freckling on the bands and trigger guard are present, while the breech-block retains a commensurate amount of bright, original color case-hardening. The walnut stock has a strong "SWP / 1889" cartouche on the left side, and only minor handling marks in the otherwise excellent reapplied military oil finish. The rifle comes with a correct blued steel ramrod, is equipped with a correct Buffington rear sight. This is a splendid Model 1884 Trapdoor, and is in excellent condition, with lots of original finish remaining on the metal. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes |
