Description:
Batch #58, .31 Caliber black powder percussion, 4 inch 6 barrel cluster with very fine dark bores. This is a "Allen & Thurber" Worcester marked Pepperbox double action, bar hammer pistol. The antique pistol features an engraved frame and nipple shield with the scarcer left side plate on the frame and Worcester style, bag shaped grip and fluted barrels. It retains much of a later added finish on the metal surfaces with old pitting visible under the finish heaviest near the muzzle with some isolated spots near the nipple shield and around the nipples. The bar hammer is marked "Allens Patent / 1845" and show some minor nicks and dings. The bag shaped walnut grips, each numbered to the gun, rate about excellent with some light use marks and old contusions. Mechanically it functions properly with good barrel alignment and a crisp trigger pull. A nicely marked and good looking example of this rather scarce Worcester made Allen & Thurber Pepperbox.
