The Smith & Wesson® M&P®40 Pro Series® is an ultra-reliable Semi-Auto Pistol that's simple to operate and maintain, with enhanced features to make it an ultimate handgun for self-defense and competition shooting. The Pro Series C.O.R.E. (Competition Optics Ready Equipment) pistols have the slide cut just in front of the traditional rear sight to accept optical red dot sights from. The front and rear sights on the C.O.R.E. Series are slightly taller than normal to enable the shooter to use them in the event the optical sight fails, without taking the optical sight off the gun. Barrel-to-slide and slide-to-frame fit on the Pro Series are extremely tight. The grip angle and a low slide profile on the M&P semi-automatic pistol make it a natural pointer, and quite controllable when firing rapid shots by reducing muzzle rise. The M&P40 Pro comes with an improved trigger pull that's smooth and relatively light. The frame has an integral accessory rail in front of the trigger guard for the attachment of aftermarket tactical flashlights or laser sights. The stainless-steel slide has a durable, black oxide finish, and rear cocking serrations that provide a secure grip when loading or clearing the action. The M&P has a slide release lever on both sides of the frame, and the magazine release is reversible. The M&P is a striker-fired semi-auto pistol. The trigger system prevents the firearm from discharging unless the trigger is fully depressed, even if the pistol is dropped. The trigger pull is smooth and clean, and it breaks predictably.
