Description:
TOTENKOPF DEATH’S HEAD 1917 ERFURT P.08 GERMAN LUGER Pistol 9 GREAT WAR C&R

WWI Imperial German Sidearm 9x19mm Parabellum

Here we present a Rare C&R Erfurt Arsenal Totenkopf 1917 Dated P.08 Luger Pistol, made in 1917.

This rare Erfurt Luger bears the Totenkapf Deaths Head Lazy S on top of the receiver. The Death’s Head ordinarily only appears on the 1917 and 1918 pistols of DWM and Erfurt manufacture, as is this example, when the Stoßtruppen, or “Shock Troops” were created for use in trench raiding formations. They were also associated with flamethrower units. Though not indicated on this example, it is believed that some these guns were reworked prior to 1940 for SS use in the concentration camps that were expanding at the time.

This specimen is dated “1917” on the top of the chamber to the right of the “Death’s Head”. The toggle is marked with a “Crown/ERFURT”. This pistol is serial numbered in the German military style. The right side of the barrel extension has the three “Crown/Script” German military proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof. The leather holster is by “J.M. ECKART” of Ulm and it is dated “1915”. There is also the surname “FANELLI” just above the maker’s mark on the inside of the flap.

The overall condition is very good. Old armory refinish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grips are solid. Numbers match throughout except for the grips. The holster is in good condition and it includes a spare magazine not numbered to the gun.
