This petite, handy, single-shot rifle features a Damascene twist octagonal barrel in .380 caliber. The bottom of the barrel is marked with black powder proof for 88 bore. This rifle has a needle-like firing pin attached by a hinge to the hammer and which pierces the breech block. In addition, the breech block itself is interesting, featuring a screw-type action that unlocks the breech (simply rotate the long lever counter-clockwise) so that the barrel tips down for loading and unloading. John Rigby & Company is a gunmaking firm founded by John Rigby in 1775 in Dublin. His grandson, also John, opened a London branch in 1865 and Dublin operations had ceased by February 1897. The company, under different management, is still in operation today. After conducting multiple experiments beginning in 1824, Prussian gunsmith Johann Nikolaus von Dreyse in 1836 produced the first complete needle fire gun and founded a firearms factory in the town. This is a nice example of a high-quality rifle using the needle fire system developed by Dreyse, whose Needle fire rifle was used by the Prussian army from the early 1840s until 1871. The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent. The bore is very nice with strong rifling. The numbers match. Not many were made and this one is numbered 130. Markings and engravings are clear. A unique and elegant system by the renowned Rigby firm! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .380 Needlefire (88 bore proofed) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
