Antique Kentucky Long Rifle HOMESTEAD PIONEER .32 Octagonal Barrel Maple
With Double Set Triggers
Here we present an antique Full Stock Kentucky Long Rifle, made circa the mid-1800s with a James Golcher lock. Its octagonal barrel is in .32 caliber, large enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. This one has a striped maple stock and a larger patchbox with some additional brass ornament. Double set triggers.
Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. Many makers’ names of the so-called Kentucky long rifles have been lost over time. This rifle is one such example.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example sports a solid stock with an average amount of wear. There is a repaired chip forward of the lock and some chipping along the top of the forestock. Lightly engraved lock and top of the barrel with a partially discernible maker’s mark. Smooth brown patina. The front sight is missing.
