BEAUTIFUL STEVENS CUSTOMIZED MODEL 45 .22LR ON THE DESIRABLE 44 1/2 ACTION, #2XXX. The barrel number and receiver number match. the 26" No.2 half octagon barrel has been professionally relined (hard to see at the muzzle) and is originally marked .22 L.R. on the left side of the barrel along with the Stevens address and patents on the barrel top. The barrel retains fine original blue with only light wear/age. The rear dovetail has a blank in it and the front sight is a Lyman "Jack" sight (half moon with ivory bead). The bore is bright and excellent and the action is tight with strong safety half-cock and light/crisp trigger pull. The receiver retains about half of the case color- more to the rear section with the balance a mottled gray and has a Marble tang sight. The front face of the receiver under the forend is stamped "45" with a "0" and "EX." There has been some discussion in a gun magazine about the meaning of the "EX" and "0" with no real conclusion. The forend is typical for this model with graceful schnable tip. The butt stock appears to be a custom non pistol grip design with cheek piece and is fitted with a Swiss butt plate. The walnut is fancy and highly finished. Aside from the butt stock, nothing appears re-finished. A truly handsome rifle in every way.
