Description:
This Colt has seen some interesting history in its 133-year life. It was initially shipped from the Colt factory on Jan 21, 1891, to Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis, gateway to the West. Much later it found its way from the  United Kingdom collecting community to PA. The Colt history letter and source of this information is included in this sale.
The Colt Thunderer double action revolver is thought to have a “fragile” action. This one has a smooth, strong action that locks up very tight. There is no evidence of tampering with the screws caused by amateur repairs. The cylinder has smooth chambers, and the barrel has strong rifling with minor scattered pitting. The barrel has some dings on the lower side near the ejector rod housing, It appears some one was tapping the rod into place. The ejector rod housing screw slot is worn, probably the same repair. The case-hardened frame is mostly bright, and the blued parts show a mottled pattern of wear. There is no pitting or other corrosion damage. The grips show the expected wear with a few minor dings on the right side but no chips or cracking.
The custom presentation case and Colt letter are included with this sale.
Serial Number 80943, .41Colt Cal with a 4½” Barrel. Antique, Proof of age & residence required.
