Description:
In 1912, the Chilean Government managed to acquire from Steyr Austria some 37,500 long rifles and 5,600 carbines designated as the Model 1912, the year of the contract placement. Chile would use these rifles throughout WWI, the interwar years, and WWII period in conjunction with an additional number of rifles purchased in 1935. One point of note is that many rifles were re-barreled in 1961 for 7.62x51mm with the bolts and receivers blued in Chile. Made circa 1912 at Steyr in Austria, for the Chilean government and originally chambered in 7MM Mauser, but arsenal converted to 7.62X51 circa the 1960s, this rifle remains in solid usable condition. 7.62mm NATO/.308
