Here we present an antique Stillman Jackson Long Rifle, made circa the early-to-mid-19th Century in Palmyra, New York. Jackson was an active gunmaker in Palmyra lived from 1806 to 1869 and was active between 1829 and 1855. This one has a medium-heavy part-octagon, part-round barrel in .40 caliber. This one has a lock by A. Baker, possibly Andrew Baker of Bedford, PA. Single Trigger. Nicely figured cherry stock with deep crescent butt plate. Each side of the stock has a bit of a cheek rest. “S. JACKSON PALMYRA” on the top barrel flat.
The overall condition is near fine. Original finish/patina. The action is excellent and strong. The bore is nicely reflective with strong rifling, great for age. The stock has a small repair under the lock and a small split forward of the side plate, which is of no great concern for the overall durability. A very nice piece!
