Description:
SOLD       A fine all original 20 bore flint gun by Henry Nock. Made after his breech-patenr and before the use of platinum, so made about 1795. Twist barrels, 31-inch to standing breech. with strong traces of original finish. Patent breeches with gold touch hole liners. The rib name and breech lines in gold, with a solid gold front sight and gold inset makers marks on each lock. Locks are crisp and clean with much temper blue on the mainsprings. Original wood finish, with oil added over time, original, untouched square chequering on wrist. Bores: R: .616", L: .616", bright and clean with some light frosting. Patent breeches with gray hardened colour. Original loading rod with capped worm. Two small (old) chips on the left side of the forend and small pressure cracks in front of left lock bar. There are two small (1/8" triangle) chips missing from the thin section of the breech extension on the patent breeck. Otherwise the gun is untouched, unmollested and in very rare correct original condition without noticeable wear. Locks are smooth with sharp, fast ignition. Lock plates are plain with gold touch marks, beveled edge with fine border line. Standing breech with trophies, pineapple finial on guard and rod escution, engraving is of exceptional quality.
This is a rare best quality flint gun from one of the most highly regarded London makers who was the inventor of the patent breech.
