Spur Trigger Revolver Here we present a Very Scarce Antique C.R. Alsop Navy Model Revolver, made circa 1862-63. The Alsop Navy percussion revolver was produced in a Middletown, Connecticut factory that was owned by Joseph W. Alsop and was based on patents granted to Charles R. Alsop and Charles H. Alsop, Joseph’s sons. This Alsop revolver, both the smaller .31 caliber “Pocket” and the larger .36 caliber “Navy” have some clear similarities with the Savage Revolving Arms Company’s “Navy” revolver. Interestingly, Joseph Alsop and both of his sons were listed as members of the Savage corporation in the Savage incorporation papers. This explains why the two different revolvers have striking similarities. There were 500 of the “Navy” models produced, and 300 of the smaller “Pocket” models produced. The .36 caliber “Navy” revolvers were produced with a 5-shot cylinder, while the .31 caliber “Pocket” revolvers had a 6-shot cylinder. Both of these revolvers were single action percussion revolvers with octagon barrel. The “Navy” revolvers, as is this example, came in either 3-1/2 inch to 6-1/2 inch barrels in 1-inch increments. The overall condition is good. The action functions, but the timing is fast on a few chambers. Good bore for its age. Solid, firm grips with light handling wear. This example has been refinished. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-1/2 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
