Description:
SOLD.  James Purdey stalking rifle made in 1836. It is in excellent vintage condition and could be shot today. It is a 12 bore, (.720") with excellent multi groove rifling with strong lands and smooth grooves. The barrell  is 29" and has near 100% Damascus pattern showing. It is equipped with a blade front sight and a single 50 yd. standing rear sight with 3 folding leaves. The Purdey name and address is engraved on the barrel. All the other metal work is fully engraved with scroll and game scenes showing deer, stags, a dog chasing a wild boar on the lock. The lock works perfectly as does the stalking safety. This rifle weighs 9 lbs. and is fun to shoot with patched round balls. The Walnut stock is in nice shape as well and does show a old crack repair to the forend which is professionally done and solid as can be. The Flat-top checkering is full wrap around on the forend and grip. It comes with the original owners biographical information as well as the letter from Purdey. This quality rifle will make a great addition to your collection.
It has been restocked sometime in the past.  The woodwork is excellent and it was done long enough ago that the wear makes it hard to tell until you pull the lock. All the metal is original as the engraving matches throughout.  The ramrod is also a replacement. It matches well and is very sturdy.    Please give call Raff at 760 497 7836 or email if you have any questions and thank you for looking. And, I am not a dealer and I am just selling off my own collection.
