Description:
WORLD WAR II German J.P. SAUER & SON “ce” Code “43” Date Model K98 Rifle

With Soviet Capture X, East Germany

Here we present a C&R Third Reich German J. P. Sauer & Son “ce” Code “43” Date K98 Mauser Rifle manufactured in 1943. This one has the Russian capture “X” marking on the top of the receiver and it would have seen continued service in East Germany during the Cold War, the Soviet Russian controlled part of Germany. This rifle will come with the original rear sight assembly but has been equipped with a long eye relief scope, a Nikon Monarch 2.5-8 scope, making it a “scout” rifle.

It was in 1941 that the Sauer production code changed from “147” to a script “ce”. Cupped buttplates were introduced to help prevent the de-lamination of rifle buttstocks. Sauer began to use “bys” and “dfb” barrels and magazine followers which have a waffenamt “214”. Waffenamt inspection numbers continued to be used on most parts. All metal parts continued to be milled and numbered to match the rifle. The known serial number range is from 1005 to 613v for an estimated production run of 225,000 rifles.

The overall condition is very good. This one has been through an armory refurbishment. The barrel and receiver are original from the factory to one another and during the refurbishment the bolt, the trigger guard, and magazine floor plate were replaced with pieces from other guns and then electropenciled to match. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The laminate wood stock is solid. Import marked under the barrel.
