Description:
******* thx Rick S. in Minnesota *********

Smith & Wesson Model 1, 2nd variation 22 short revolver, serial #22121, made December 1861, brass frame, rosewood grips, square butt, 3 1/8" octagon barrel, 7-shot cylinder, spur trigger. Hammer locks back tightly. Hinge is tight with no wobble. Right grip has a tight split. Left grip excellent. Serial number matches on frame and grips. Assembly number matches on barrel and cylinder. Left side of frame inscribed "C. Slocum Watertown NY." Caleb Slocum enlisted in the 35th NY Infantry on 5/9/1861 as a Private into Company A. He saw promotions to Sergeant, 2nd LT., and 1st LT. before the unit mustered out on 6/3/1863, with a transfer to Company F late in 1862. Lt. Slocum survived the famous battles at 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, the "Mud March", and Chancellorsville. Having been born August 30th, 1834, he spent his 28th birthday on the battlefield at 2nd Bull Run!!
Lt. Slocum returned to Jefferson County, NY after mustering out and remained there until his death on May17, 1897. Provenance includes copies of his muster sheet, pension sheet, family tree, and gravesite picture/location. Battlefield maps of 2nd Bull Run and Antietam are also included, citing the location of the 35th NY during those battles (at Antietam, the unit was engaged near the famous Dunker Church). A wonderful piece of local history that grades NRA Antique Very Good, and will make a fine addition to your collection (or a great way to start a Civil War period collection!).

TERMS: Sold as a collector's item only. No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you, assuming your local laws allow it (recent changes in NY State law requires shipment to an FFL). Payment by personal check, bank check or postal money order (sorry no credit cards). 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Will ship USPS Priority Mail in a Flat Rate box for $20, insurance extra.
