Description:
Very rare and hard to find Lefever in excellent original condition - Built with 32" Krupp barrels and barrel flats and bottom of tubes with Krupp marking and serial number stamp. Splinter forend with engraved steel tip and more desirable clam shell release. Casehardened sideplate receiver is beautifully engraved with 2 Setters on right, 2 Pointers on left, both in oval game scene surrounded by scroll and engraved "LEFEVER ARMS CO." on front of locks. Lightly sculpted fences are also nicely engraved. Bottom of frame with large burst of scroll at center, geometric pattern engraved butterfly wings, and engraved trigger plate. Factory original blued trigger guard with flying ducks in oval on bow, SN at tang. Gun made with gold plated double triggers, auto ejectors, and 3 position safety. Top lever and top tang are nicely engraved. Finely figured walnut buttstock is checkered in point and wave pattern through the wrist, has silver oval on toeline, and terminates with its original leather faced Silver's type pad.
The right side of stock with 2" silver presentation plaque engraved "PRESENTED TO R.R. NELL/ANACONDA MONT./MAY 2, 1915/BY ADMIRING FRIENDS".
Overall the gun remains in xcellent, all original, and investment grade condition. The barrels retain 90-95% original blue with some thinning at carry point and scattered light rubs. Splinter forend with scattered handling marks. There is a 1-3/4" sliver of wood missing toward muzzle end on left side from very long ago. Locks retain virtually all of their bold original case color. Frame retains more than 70% of its original color with thinning at carry point. Buttstock is excellent and sound retaining more than 95% of its original finish with scattered light handling marks. Pad is aging and very hard. Bores are brilliant and shiny. Mechanics are excellent. This is the best original condition later production C Grade Lefever to come to market in more than 15 years. The presentation plaque should be further researched.
