Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: VERY FINE CONDITION .44 DOUBLE ACTION TOP BREAK 1ST MODEL, SCARCE 4" BARREL, .44 RUSSIAN CALIBER, #15XXX, MADE 1880s. This big "No. 3" frame double action was made from 1881 into the 20th century with serial numbers from 1-54000 approximately. This fairly early example has all matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, latch and barrel. The black S&W hard rubber grips are not numbered (typical on early S&Ws with rubber grips) and fit perfectly. I believe they are original to this revolver and show only light normal wear mostly on the right side which is normal for a holstered revolver worn on the right side where the left grip is more protected. The grip straps and trigger guard retain all the bright original nickel. Thre frame shows only light pin-prick freckling to the nickel on the left side with a littlel more apparent on the right side. The barrel similarly shows most of the nickel with some light freckling on the sides. The cylinder retains about half the nickel with the balance flaked- where there is nickel loss the metal exposed is silvery-gray and blends very well with the remaining nickel. Still some good case color on the hammer and trigger with good blue on the cylinder latch. Unaltered front sight, exc screw heads look unturned. Exc. mech and bright bore. Most of these I've seen have been with 5," 6," or 6 1/2 inch barrels with the 4" the lease common. This is a really fine early .44 double action with attractive appearance.
