Description:
This 1944 semi auto rifle is a Springfield Armory M1 Garand chambered in .308 Winchester. It has a fixed blade with protective sides front sight, an adjustable rear aperture peep sight, a smooth curved trigger, and a checkered steel butt plate with a trap door for cleaning kit [cleaning kit not included]. The barrel is marked "1 10 308 WIN 3 91 SHORT CHAMBER." The metal finish is in very good to excellent condition, with some loss around the sharp edges of muzzle end. The wood is in excellent condition, with no visible marks. The M1 Garand or M1 rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the service rifle of the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II and the Korean War. This rifle was re-barrelled for the .308 Winchester cartridge. It was the first standard-issue autoloading rifle for the United States. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well. General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised." The M1 replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the U.S. service rifle in 1936, and was itself replaced by the selective-fire M14 rifle on March 26, 1958. .308 Winchester
