Description:
Meriden Arms Co, grade 55, 12 gauge with Krupp fluid steel 30" barrels, original 14" LOP, 1 3/8" DAC, double triggers and extractors. 2 3/4" chambers make this gun safe to shoot with moden target and field loads. Tight action, good checkering and hand rubbed French polish stocks. Freshly rust blued barrels choked IM/IM. Bores show shine and overall rate very good. 7 lbs, 7 ozs. The Meriden is the Rodney Dangerfield of fine American doubles. It just doesn't get the collector respect it deserves. This is a true sidelock action, similar to the LC Smith, but better designed in many respects. This gun has no cracks in the stock anywhere. All exterior screw heads are engraved. The forestock tip shows a hint of schnable. The buttstock mates with the frame elegantly, especially at the bottom where two slight ridges meld seamlessly into the sculpted frame. The grip cap appears to be original and horn. The buttplate is intact but shows its age. This gun was literally built down the street from the Parker Bros factory, and Parker engravers clearly engraved this Meriden, as the birds on the frame are unmistakably Parker style. Frame and forend iron show beautiful, even and original patina, which show-cases the fine engraving. This gun is at least the equal of the Parker G grade. The figure in the buttstock is breathtaking, as shown in the photos taken in natural light, some shaded and some direct. Sooner or later the collector world will discover these higher grade Meridens and the prices will skyrocket. For now though, they represent a great buy for the quality. 3 day non-shooting, non-disassembly inspection period runs from receipt by your FFL. Buyer contributes $50 toward price of insured USPS ground shipping. Feel free to ask any questions.
