Description:
For your consideration is a historical Confederate S.C. Robinson carbine. During the Civil War, the Confederacy was perpetually in short of arms to equip their troops, as the South did not have the industrial infrastructure of  the North. This led to many attempts at arms production by various entrepreneurs, with varied results. One of the more successful enterprises was the S.C. Robinson Arms, founded in Richmond VA in December of 1862. Samuel Robinson was a transplanted Connecticut industrialist who proved himself capable and reliable for the CSA government with a series of contracts to convert flintlock muskets to percussion ignition. Probably because of this, it was he that the CSA’s Colonel Burton turned to to set up production of a copy of the Sharps carbine for Confederate cavalry use. Robinson produced about 1900 of these carbines between December 1862 and March of 1863. This particular example is in the typical condition of a battle used weapon of the civil war. The stock set is solid with various wear and chips mostly near the receiver. The metal surfaces have worn to a even grey patina. The barrel band and crescent style butt plate are brass. Mechanically everything works as it should. The front sight is missing. The saddle ring is intact on it's keeper. Authentic Confederate produced Civil War firearms are scarce. This would make a fine addition to any Civil War collection.
