10 Gauge SIDE x SIDE with DAMASCUS BARRELS
Here we present an antique W. & C. Scott & Son Side by Side Double Barrel Shotgun, made circa the 1880s in Birmingham, England. A multigenerational gunmaking shop founded by William and Charles Scott circa 1840 after both had completed their respective apprenticeships. Circa 1858 William Middleditch Scott (the son of the original William) became a partner in the firm and the name was changed to W. & C. Scott & Son. Other family members and children were also involved in the business as engravers and stockers, etc. The 1860s were a booming time for the Birmingham gunmaking industry due to the American Civil War but also because sporting guns such as shotguns were exported in high numbers to the US and continental Europe.
This gun features 28” Birmingham black powder proofed Damascus barrels.
The overall condition is near fine. Nicely refinished, it has very nice twist pattern on the barrels. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and bright. The stock is smooth and solid throughout. There is a 2-3/8 inch scratch on the right side.
