Description:
EARLY PRE-WAR MODEL 71 .348 WCF, #13XXX, MADE 1937. Not many of these Pre-War rifles were made as the Great Depression was still in full swing when the first rifles came off the line in 1936. This is the "long tang" version found on early guns and this one also has the desirable bolt peep sight along with inletted super-grade style sling swivel bases in the butt stock and on the forend cap. Overall condition is excellent with most of the blue intact and just a few small areas of freckling on the barrel and lever. There is one thin line of very light corrosion- barely through the blue- coming down from the bolt on the left side to the bottom of the receiver that may have been caused by blood or some kind of chemical. It is fairly minor and could be cleaned/touched up. It retains the original checkered steel butt plate and has a blank filler in the rear sight dovetail on the barrel. Wood is excellent and shows almost no handling with tight wood to metal fit. Tight action and perffect bore. A really fine 88 year old .348.
