Handsome Big Bore “MANSTOPPER” Gentleman’s Pistol
Here we present an antique likely Russian Percussion Pistol, made circa 1840. Belt-sized pistols like these were used to defend oneself when traveling or in public places. It was big enough to fight with, but not so large as to be cumbersome. They could be both as handsome or as plain as one desired or could afford. This one would fall into the category of a more “well to do” individual’s firearm.
This sturdy, large bore pistol is nicely engraved, carved and certainly a quality piece. One can imagine that this pistol may have been purchased by a gentleman or a successful businessman.
The overall condition is good. The action functions. The bore is good. The stock is ornately inlaid with silver wire. A wonderfully unique specimen!
