Description:
Lightning Slide action, medium frame, caliber .32-20, is the first slide action rifle Colt produced. Ben Kittredge, was an entrepreneur and salesman who popularized and coined the prhases "Lightning", "Thunderer", and "Peacemaker", which were picked upby Colt and used as part of their advertising. Featuring a 26" barrell length with a 15 round cartridge capacity it was a formidable weapon that could provide rapid suppressive fire. This is a very good example of a blued finish that has a stamped "Rampant Colt" emblem stamped into its' case-hardened breach area on the left side. Moderate deterioration of it's original blued finish remains. The stock and fore-end are of original Walnut that has been oiled and the fore-end has been checkered. All Colt factory information is roll stamped on the barrell along with the appropriate patent dates. Serial number date indicates this rifle was producted in 1889-90. Breach areas show some metal scratches and the stock has moderate scratches and dings from use.
