Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1929, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 12oz, SK/IC, LOP 14 3/16″, DAH 2 5/8″, DAC 1 9/16″
Serial Number:  262579

Most will agree the Fox Sterlingworth 20ga. is the best value for a fine small gauge vintage American double in today’s marketplace bate.  Built on a tiny 20ga. frame (therefore lighter than like guns from Parker, L.C. Smith, or Ithaca), dynamically balanced… the Sterlingworth is still an affordable field and clays gun with the handling and shooting characteristics of a much more expensive gun.  The American double gun world loves the Fox shotgun.  Just try and find a decent 20ga. in any grade.  There are few offered for sale, and for good reason.  The A.H. Fox 20 bore has been described as the “most perfectly proportioned 20ga.” boxlock ever made and it likely is true.  I have a treasure here; a 1929 Philly Sterlingworth, sn262579, that has over 85% factory case color, 99% barrel blue, 99% trigger guard blue, 26″ #3 weight barrels, mirror bores, great wood with factory butt plate.  The mechanics are perfect, the 26” # 3weight barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face with double ivory beads, the top lever is right of center…this is an amazing little Fox Sterlingworth.  Weighing 5lb.s 11oz. and perfectly balanced on the hinge pin, it is a delightful little bird gun that will appeal to both the collector and the upland hunter. Please see the factory letter that indicates the special open choking…a killer close range bird gun that will crush at skeet as well. It is the perfect quail, grouse, woodcock, pen-raised pheasant gun!  Guns with this much factory case color, perfect screws, and beautifully restored factory wood are becoming near impossible to find and will continue to grow in value as fewer and fewer are available to purchase.  A great investment opportunity and delightful gun for your upcoming bird season.  The gun has 2 ¾” chambers and needs nothing but a date at the range or to the uplands.  Guns like this one sell fast, so don’t hesitate or she will be gone, gone, gone!  Thanks for looking.
