Description:
This 1918 double action revolver is a Smith & Wesson M1917 chambered in .45 Caliber. It has a fixed half moon blade front sight, a grooved receiver rear sight, a smooth curved trigger, is 10½" in overall length, and a left side cylinder release. This revolver has the Smith & Wesson bright polish blue finish, a color case-hardened trigger and hammer and a lanyard swivel. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. The butt is roll-stamped U.S. / ARMY / MODEL / 1917" and "NO./ 83 / 476". Smith & Wesson manufactured 163,635 Model 1917 revolvers under government contract between October 1917 and January 1919. These high quality revolvers were used extensively during both WW I and WW II. Displays small areas of edge wear, small handling marks, and a drag line on the cylinder. Grips are also very fine, with good grain, and only minimal handling marks. Serial number places the year of production at 1918. The top of the barrel has the two line S&W address and patent dates, the left side is marked S&W D.A. 45, the underside of the barrel is marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY. The left side of the frame has the flaming bomb proof mark in front of the hammer. It comes with a reproduction leather holster and canvas belt and pouch, another set of wood grip panels, as well as a soft side carry case. .45 Colt
