Description: This 1979 Third Issue six-shot double action blued revolver is a Colt Detective Special chambered in .38 Special. It has a low profile fixed blade front sight, a grooved receiver rear sight, a shrouded ejector rod, and is 7" in overall length. Being the first example of a class of firearms known as "snub nose revolvers" and as the name "Detective Special" suggests, this revolver was intended to be a concealed weapon used by plainclothes police detectives. First introduced in 1927, the Detective Special was the first short-barreled revolver produced with a modern swing-out frame. It was designed from the outset to be chambered for higher-powered cartridges such as the .38 Special, considered to be a powerful caliber for a concealable pocket revolver of the day. The Detective Special uses a slightly smaller frame than the Colt Official Police or Smith & Wesson Model 10 (K-Frame) revolvers, but is larger than the five-shot Smith & Wesson Model 36/Model 38/Model 42 (J-frame) revolvers. Although the Detective Special proved to be an instant success when first introduced, lackluster sales saw the elimination of the Detective Special from the product line in 1996. The high gloss bluing is in excellent to like-new condition, with only a faint drag line on the cylinder. The wood grip panels are likewise in excellent condition, with a 2mm blemish at the very top of the left grip. It comes with the original Colt factory box, styrofoam inserts, paperwork. .38 Special SOLD Chambers: Six round cylinder Metal Condition: "High gloss bluing is in excellent to like-new condition, with a faint drag line on the cylinder Wood Condition: "Wood grip panels are likewise in excellent condition, with a 2mm blemish at the very top of the left grip Bore Condition: Bore is very bright and shiny with strong rifling Barrels: 2" barrel Triggers: Smooth curved trigger Stock Dimensions: 7" overall length Fore End: Shrouded ejector rod Weight: 1 lb 8 ozs Sights: "Low profile fixed blade front sight, grooved receiver rear sight Item Location: Wichita, KS |
