Payment Types Accepted: Cash, Bank Check, or Money Order Description: If you’re looking at this offering you probably already know the outrageous quality of Simson shotguns - espesically for a gun in this price range. This is a GDR gun which, as I understand, was made prior to the dissolution of Simson Arms, but during the period of consolidation which ultimately resulted in the Merkel Arms we know today. True to form, this gun is a Simson through and through. The quality of the shotgun is superb and it doesn’t appear to have been shot much at all. I’ve probably put more rounds through it training my dog then all the time it existed before acquiring it several years ago. This is a lightweight 12 ga that handles great and essentially points itself. Condition is probably about 80-85% with most of that accounting for the age of the gun and subsequent handling. Beautiful, genuine, case colors show wear at some frame edges but as depicted in the photo’s, the case solors remain mostly intact. The gun’s equipped with sling swivels which are easily removed should the buyer prefer not to use them. I personally find them very handy. The barrels once had a mid-bead installed, but it’s broken off and the remnants remain in the barrels' rib. It’s an easy fix for those who care but in hand it’s hardly noticeable and doesn’t affect functionality in the least (see picture no 12). The guns barrels (including rib & barrel flats) are in great condition and the original white bead front sight remains intact. There are superficial handling scratches on the barrels due to age but the barrel bluing looks great overall - no bluing loss. The wood is in fantastic shape and aside superficial handling marks here and there, there are no heavy scratches through grain, no heavy dings, cracks of any kind, or repairs. Please note that I lightly refreshed the wood by cleaning it up and then simply wiping down with linseed and a touch of spar urethane (rubbed in) soon after I acquired it. I selected the gun personally from the importer several years ago. This gun was cherry in comparison to many other offerings and it also felt (and appeared) basically unused mechanically. Gun remains in great shape today and it’s still very tight from the factory. This is an heirloom quality sxs in that, with basic care going forward, this gun’s ready to be used in the field or even in the marsh for generations to come - just what Simson/Merkel/Suhl sxs’s are known for. At 6-3/4 pounds the gun’s not only a pleasure to carry, but also surprisingly fast and nimble for a 12ga due to the fact it balances so well. The stock dimensions (and cheek pc) make it an incredibly nice gun to shoot instinctually - believe that! This is a field gun through and through and the tasteful hand engraving depicts that well. Capped pistol grip, splinter fore end, double trigger, 28” steel barrels with side clips, and cocking indicators adding a nice touch. Bores are clean with no rust or pitting. Tight chokes! An easy job to open chokes if one so desires, but I suggest using the gun first - it just might surprise some to know just how good the tight chokes in these guns are for Chukars and Pheasant. I have also used spreader-loads in this very gun to good effect when working over a young dog and close flushing birds. Buy with confidence - this is a nice a shotgun.
