Description:
This is a Model 1854 12-mm LeFaucheux pinfire revolver designed and produced by Eugene LeFaucheux, acclaimed French firearm designer/inventor. This is an Army model with the signature spur trigger guard. It is a six-shot, single action military revolver produced at Liege, Belgium. The action is tight, all parts are original, and the markings are sharp. The serial number is 43852. Cylinder is symbol stamped DG, for Gilles Decortis, Belgian cylinder maker. The gun fired a self-contained metallic pinfire cartridge. During the Civil War, this was the only non-percussion revolver issued by the Union and one of the foreign handguns purchased (12,000 total); this gun was Used mainly by Union troops in the Western theater. Many fell into the hands of Trans-Mississippi Confederates. It was apparently not well-liked by either. Overall, the gun is in Very Good condition and a nice example.
